About Ashoka Scandinavia

About Ashoka Scandinavia

Ashoka made a strategic commitment in 2003 to launch in Western Europe the programmes that have been most successful in developing countries and North America.

During its first decade in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Central Europe, Ashoka focused exclusively on launching leading social entrepreneurs and helping them succeed. But in the 1990s as the citizen sector evolved and grew, Ashoka responded with a wider range of programs and initiatives to deal with the sector's growing needs. Ashoka grew as well, tripling in size from 1988 to 1990, and again from 1999 to 2002, with still more new countries introduced in the years that followed. Today Ashoka is in its third period of rapid growth, electing record numbers of Fellows in 2006 and expanding its programs in Western Europe, including Scandinavia.

Currently, Ashoka is active in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Guided from our Ireland offices, our Ashoka programme will be officially launched in Scandinavia in April.

Ashoka In Scandinavia

Ashoka has elected five Ashoka Fellows within the Scandinavian region, with three in Sweden, one in Denmark, and one in Norway. We have an active Ashoka Support Network as well as a broad range of partners, including Social Initiative, Deloitte, Ferd, and Vinge. We have partnered with businesses to provide the resources for social entrepreneurs to succeed, develop new social financial services, and build a more innovative citizen sector across the region and the continent.
